Search engines seem to like at least 1 H1 tag per page. A few H2 and H3 tags won't hurt either.
Don't use un-followable links, especially menu links. At least don't use them as a matter of course.
Keep, the <a href="javascript:makeMyNiftyLink()">LINK TEXT</a> to a bare minimum if used at all.
Search engines don't contain a Javascript engine and so can not understand what the link is trying to do.
try to use the keywords as many times as possible in the sites text content.
search engins cant read javascript. otherwise I do belive all the major search engines can read all the other types of links. if the search engin cant read the links to other parts of the site it cant crawl them.
link backs are important. find some blogs and forums and write a small post about it and post a link back, links from myspace, facebook, craigslist, ect.... Make sure to click the links not to just make sure they are working but also to "activate" the link for the search engines.
thier are lots of pfc search engines that are free to index, add your link, give you some free credits or are very cheap to list with.
lots of free advertisement out there. both google and yahoo offer free ad credits to start with (as long as you sign up threw special links availible all over the net.) other advertisers similar to their styles are also out there like bidvertiser
PTC's and autosurfs are ussally cheap and lots of the autosurfs give away tons of free credits.
Their are also bulk traffic sales sites that are very cheap. like $10 for a million hits.
All trafic is good trafic. real or not the search engines cant tell the difference.
of coarse the search engines are always changing, some of them you can put your site on a list to be indexed others you just kinda have to wait. the more links back to your site means its easier for the search enginesto crawl and find your site wich in turns means faster indexing will happen.
if their are already static html pages i wouldnt nessisarily delete them, maybe update them with links to the new content. the search engines like to see old pages as well as also seeing lots of new upd ated content. and again the more often a site is updated the more often search engin bots will crawl the site.
if you are going to keep up the marketing like this you will want to make a list of all the sites you are dealing with and remember to go back and check the links and such every couple weeks.
thats pretty much all I do, I dont know about brian and I know he has gotten pretty good about getting individual site pages on the first page of search engine results. but that is for specific products and he is working with a high traffic and old site.
